To the Editor:
I am writing to you as another voice in support of the restoration of the Fort Revere Water Tower.
Earlier this week I took my mom for a drive; she is new to town, having moved out here from North Dakota in the middle of the pandemic. We made a stop by the fort, enjoying a quiet moment to relax in our car and look out at the beautiful blue expanse. We admired the view and talked about how grandpa would have liked to have visited; he was a proud veteran and quite the history buff.
We took a walk around the fort, and our last part of the tour was the tower. Having attended the February meeting with the Hull Historic Commission and the related discussions around the tower restoration, we talked about what could be. We pictured ourselves bringing relatives and friends to the fort and being able to see from the lookout platform of the tower – with views spanning hundreds of miles.
The Fort Revere Water Tower is an important piece of Hull’s history and needs to be restored to its original prominence. Restoring the water tower and showcasing the historical value of the structure will allow us, as a community, to build on our Village’s great history and also extend Hull’s tourist destination appeal.
I hope the Board of Selectmen will take the next steps to preserve this important part of Hull’s history.
