Pike finds football future with local team: For most talented high school football players, playing in college is the most popular route to continue putting on the pads. Not so for Hull’s Dylan Pike, who has found his football future in the East Coast Semi-Pro Football League. Pike has just begun his third season as a running back for the Marshfield Hurricanes and is enjoying every moment.
“I am a hands-on type of guy and was not interested in college, so I joined a local union,” said Pike. “This league is perfect for guys like me who wanted to continue to play football.” Pike is a 2020 Hull High School graduate and was a South Shore League All-Star as a two-way lineman for the Pirates in his senior year. “I had played fullback for the first three years in high school, but our team needed lineman, so I put the team first and switched. It’s nice to be able to play running back again,” he said.
The Hurricanes play their home games at Marshfield High School and are currently 0-1 in the young season. The next home game is on July 16 at 7 p.m. against the Boston Golden Badgers. The 10- game season features contests against teams from throughout New England and a few from southern states. In addition to getting regular playing time in a three-back rotation system, Pike also sees regular action on various special teams units.
Hull Youth Softball team falls in final: They almost completed an undefeated season!
In the end, it was Hingham who hoisted the championship trophy after defeating the Hull Division 2 Bayshore team, 11-6, in the title game last week, handing Hull its only loss of the season. Hull went unbeaten in the regular season, its first in the South Shore Travel League, then captured two playoff games before falling in the finale, ending the season with an 11-1 record. Despite the loss, the final game had outstanding defensive plays by Luisa Rizzo, Aynslee Hassler, Tessa Shultz, McKenzie Neal, Angelina Sharkey, and Kelsea Dunlap.
Babe Ruth: The Hingham-Hull Babe Ruth season recently ended with the Hull team finishing fifth in the nine-team league. Hull placed four players on the league All-Star team: Ken Autio, Teddy Hipp, Angus McKenna and Nate Tiani. Hull head coach Eric Rickard also was appointed head coach of the Hingham Post American Legion team, which will include Hull players Bran James and Angus McKenna.
