The Hull U-12 boys’ travel baseball team took second place at the Stoughton Invitational Tournament this past weekend. Hull finished with a 3-2 record and advanced to the championship game, losing 8-2 to undefeated Dighton. The team opened the weekend on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Brockton. ???MISSING to New Bedford, the Pirates rallied for a 12-2 triumph over Middleborough, then knocked off New Bedford 11-5 in a rematch.
Angus McKenna had a tremendous tournament at the plate and on the mound. He struck out 21 batters over nine innings and did not give up a run. He also had multiple hits including a home run. Max McEachern and Aydan Dunham were tremendous at the plate with each hitting a pair of home runs.
Logan Griffin and Nate Tiani also contributed timely hitting and tremendous defense. Christian Truglia, Tegan Belew, Will Kennersen, Josh Miller, Jonah Smith, Matt Kraus, and Jeffrey Reade all had great games for the Pirates. The coaches were: head coach Gary Dunham, assisted by Brian McEachern, Greg Griffin, and Tony Truglia.
Summer program a big hit
The Hull Park and Recreation summer program has tripled its average number of registrations, with 240 kids signed up this summer. The program will have 24 staff workers, almost double the average number. The construction at the Kenberma Playground is due to be complete by the end of the month, according to Park and Recreation Committee Chair Greg Grey. The playground will have a new basketball court and pickleball courts. The Summer Hoops League is also scheduled to return this year, as are the summer field trips. Grabbing the gold
Hull was well represented at the annual Bay State Games soccer tournament in Waltham this past weekend. The Southeast boys’ soccer team won the gold medal. Hull’s Richie Chau and Jack Burke were members of the team. The Southeast girls’ team did not win a medal but played a tough game in a 1-0 loss to Coastal in the Bronze Medal game. The Hull girls on the team were: Elly Thomas, Sarah Duran, Fallon Ryan, Nina Tiani, Mattie Tuchmann, Bridget Fleming, and Veronica Fleming.
