To the Editor:
I was surprised to read a recent letter to the editor regarding a “native son’s” application for the position of principal at Hull High School and his application being dismissed with no reason given. Reading the accomplishments of the applicant, Dr. John F. Gould III, it would certainly seem to me that he would warrant and interview! His stature, both physically and academically, certainly present as credentials sought by any school system. Having spent 32 years in the Lowell School System, as a teacher and an administrator, it has been my experience that our best leaders/administrators were those that were “natives,” familiar with the local mores and had attended local schools. From what I read about Dr. John F. Gould III, it would seem to me that the interview panel for principal at Hull High School has been short-sighted by not even allowing this man an interview!
Respectfully submitted,
