The good news is that as we enter the second year of Stretch Your Food Budget, the Nantasket Hull Rotary has adopted SYFB as a Rotary project in conjunction with the Hull Public Schools. However, as of Dec. 29, we were short of our budgeted goal by approximately $3,000.
The program presently makes five meal kits available for delivery or for pickup at Hull’s senior center or by appointment at Wellspring Multi-service Center. Meal kit options include: macaroni and cheese, rice and beans, minestrone soup, Tex-Mex chicken and rice, and apple cinnamon oatmeal.
Each kit includes all the ingredients necessary to produce a nutritious meal. The meals take about 25 minutes to cook on the stovetop and serve four adults or a family of six. (More specific details are available at www.SYFB.space.)
With the increased involvement of the Hull Public Schools and the Nantasket-Hull Rotary Club, the program has expanded with a Snacks for School Kids option. To help the educational professionals, who presently make snacks available to students by spending their own money, the SYFB program supplies them with backpacks of snacks for distribution to students who are hungry at school.
During this season of giving and gratitude just passed, we remember the words of President Franklin Roosevelt: “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have little.”
You can help advance the mission of SYFB with a donation to: Nantasket-Hull Rotary Club (with SYFB in the memo line), P.O. Box 38, Hull, MA 02045.
Suggested donations are: $50 for a month of snacks for school kids; $65 for a week of meal kits; $260 for a month of meal kits; and $600 for a year of snacks for students.
The Nantasket-Hull Rotary Club is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit; donations are tax-deductible.
