To the Editor:
In the short time since my last update, Fort Revere has been “graffitied” at least a dozen times. Since I have not been painting over the interior walls (on advice from town counsel and because the town would not reimburse me the expenses that they asked me to submit) for the last two years, the interior spaces are just about full (meaning floor to ceiling), and the graffitists are now hitting the exterior surfaces more often.
In the last two years, the fort is becoming what it looked like 10 years ago when I first went to the town about this problem. Other than the new placards (CPA money), paved road, police patrols, the 230th Bastille Day celebration, anti-graffiti paint donation, and a streetlight, the town has done little to maintain the fort. The DCR has been carrying the weight of everyday maintenance, lawn mowing and litter pickup.
Time for the town to step up. They are wasting a beautiful resource that continues to fall in disrepair from neglect. I know it’s not your practice, but feel free to respond with some helpful ideas to remedy this problem. Again, thanks to the Hull Police for their efforts.
