Democracy in my long lifetime has been diminished in our South Shore towns, and the role of the voters has become less important in the governance of their communities. These changes, unfortunately, have been brought about with the compliance of the voters.
Case in point: The actions of some misguided individuals who would establish a human resources department in Hull that would appoint town employees. This responsibility should be that of the local government that represents and is accountable to the people of Hull.
I ask the people of Hull to remember the words of Abraham Lincoln: “Government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.”
