There is a strong case that Shane Weber was the best boys lacrosse player in the short history of the Hull High program. Now he is making a similar case at Alfred University. The senior criminal justice major has earned several honors at the Division 3 western New York school, most recently being selected to the All-ECAC First Team. Other men’s lacrosse accolades for Weber include ECAC Defensive Player of the Week; All Empire 8 League First Team; Empire 8 All-Tournament Team; Empire 8 Player of the Week; Saxon of the Week (three times), and USILA Division 3 Team of the Week. He also holds the school record for Career Caused Turnovers (147) and Single Season Caused Turnovers (45). Weber has been a starter for the Saxons since his freshman season and has been a team captain for the past three seasons. Weber, who is the son of Chris (his high school coach) and Heather Weber, led Hull High School to the South Shore League Championship in 2016 and was named the SSL Player of the Year. He was also an Eastern Massachusetts Lacrosse Coaches Association Second Team All-American.
More All-Stars
Hull High School soccer players Nina Tiani and Hayden Anastos were selected as Patriot Ledger soccer all-stars for the Fall 2020 soccer season. Both were also SSL all-stars, the second time for Anastos. Tiani will be playing for the Massachusetts Southeast girls team at the Bay State Games tournament in July.
Girls Lacrosse Wins Twice
The Hull High girls lacrosse team took two out of three games and secured third place in the SSL Tobin Division. On Wednesday, Hull edged host Fontbonne, 10-9. Nina Tiani and Grace Grosso had three goals each and Abby Schneiderhan added a pair to lead the Pirates. On Tuesday, host Rockland doubled up Hull, 14-7. Tiani netted five goals for Hull in the contest. On Friday, Hull routed visiting South Shore Vo-Tech, 11-1. Bridget Fleming, Maeve White and Lucy Peters each scored their first varsity goals. Kayla Chenette also added two for the Pirates. Hull (4-5) will meet Rockland next week in the South Shore League playoffs. The teams have split two games this season.
Tough Loss on the Turf
The varsity baseball team finally had its turn at bat in the new turf baseball diamond, but lost 8-3 to East Bridgewater on Monday night. The highlights for Hull (1-7) were a home run over the right field fence by Max Iorio, and an inside-the-park home run by John Reynolds.
Track Teams Split Again
The Hull-Cohasset outdoor track team improved to 3-2 with a 74.5 to 61.5 win over Randolph. Matt McCluskey (100 meters), DeVonte Lopes (200 meters), and Robert Hunter (2-mile) were event winners. The girls team dropped to 2-3 with an 80-56 loss to Randolph, despite blue-ribbon performances by Maeve Donahue (discus), Mattie Tuchmann (110-meter hurdles) and Nadine Egan (400 meters).
Sailing Season Ends
The Hull-Cohasset Nor’easters dropped anchor on a successful sailing season, finishing their regular season with a 3-1 record. The team had an impressive 3-0 win over NDA/Norwell, then defeated Hingham 3-1. The wins qualified the team for the semi-finals, where the Nor’easters lost to Wellesley, 3-0. The Hull student-athletes on the team are Sarah Rickard, James Frady, Ruby Schwartz and Bran James.
Soccer Teams Still Winning
The boys grade 5/6 team improved to 4-2 with a 5-3 win over host Middleboro. Christian Truglia and Sam Szabo each scored twice, and Tristan Lofgren tallied, while also playing a solid half as goalkeeper. Other strong efforts came from Mason Delgallo, Nate Tiani, Finn Walsh, Jacob Lin, Pat Hughes, Cameron Her, Pat Lancaster and Alex McBill. The girls grade 5/6-1 team is also 4-2 after a 2-1 win over Hanover. Libby Harper and Natalie Reilly netted the goals for Hull. The girls grade 5/6-2 team earned its first win of the season with a 3-0 triumph over Pembroke. Ava Palermo, Olivia Michaelides, and Isabella Walsh had the goals for Hull. On defense, Bridgett Stamatouras and Alyssa Donato led the effort on defense and Scarlett Arevalo earned the shutout in goal. The boys grade 7/8 team remained unbeaten with a 7-3 win at Pembroke. Hull (6-0) will look to keep the season slate clean on June 5 with a contest vs. Kingston at the Cohasset Sports Complex.
