Hull’s Ryan Healey was selected to play for the Team USA U17 hockey team, which is currently playing in the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Healey was chosen after a weeklong tryout in Buffalo from a pool of 160 players nationwide who were born in 2004. The team opened with a pre-tournament 5-3 win over the Czech Republic, then dropped preliminary round games to Slovakia (5-2) and Sweden (5-3), before routing Germany 10-0. Healey had two assists in the contest.
Team USA will complete the tournament on Friday when its members take on the Czech Republic in the fifth-place game.
Under-10 team off to winning start
The under-10 Hull team opened up the playoffs with a solid 20-8 win over visiting Marshfield on Monday evening.
Hull was scheduled to play in the semi-finals on Wednesday, but the game was postponed due rain. The team will play on Friday at home against Marshfield-2.
The under-12 Hull team earned a first round bye and was scheduled to play this Thursday at home against Carver or Plymouth.
All-star team notched 10-0 record
The Hull-Hingham 15-year-old all-star team suffered its first league loss of the season on Wednesday night and was eliminated in the semifinals.
The team won in the quarterfinals on Monday with a 14-4 win, paced by a strong four-inning pitching effort by Hull’s Ken Autio. The team finished the season with an overall record of 17-3 and 11-1 in the league.
Last week, Hull-Hingham had wins over Cohasset (9-2), East Brockton (5-2 and 9-1), and Plymouth (11-2) to finish the regular season with a 10-0 record.
Pickleball tournament a winner
The second annual Emma Ryan Memorial pickleball tournament was a huge success this past weekend. The Ryan family extends a huge thank-you to Hull’s Park and Recreation Department and to all who assisted in the event, including: Bob Murphy and Ed Burke for taping the court; Bill Smyth, Michael Burke, and Jen Oliveiri for creating the brackets; and Michelle Lanner for taking the photos.
