It will look a bit different this season, but the starting gun will go off for the Hull High School Indoor Track team in just two weeks. The two major changes this year will be that the team will not have a co-op squad with Cohasset, as has been the case in recent seasons, and the meets will take place outdoors.
The team’s winter season did not happen due to the coronavirus; thus, the season will be part of the MIAA Fall-2 season, which was created to allow the fall season sports to compete.
Head coach Brian Lanner returns with a young, inexperienced team that will be looking to improve on last season’s one victory (between the boys’ and girls’ teams combined).
Leading the way this year are the captains: junior Matthew McCluskey (long jumper, high jumper, and sprinter); and senior Maeve Donahue (shot put). McCluskey was the South Shore League champion last year.
“Our goal is to have members of our team improve from the beginning to the end of the season,” says Lanner. “We lack experience from so many new comers this year, but we have strong leadership from our captains.”
The team’s schedule is still a work in progress, but it appears that the first competition will be the girls travelling to Norwell on March 9 and the boys competing at Middleborough on March 10.
Cheerleading is back
The Hull High School fall cheerleading team will also be in season during the new MIAA Fall-2 season. Coach Leah Somers returns, with junior captains Tyianna Adams and Jillian Repucci to lead the team. Most of the season competitions were not confirmed at press time, so I will have more information on the squad in next week’s column.
Babe Ruth League registration
Registration is now open for the 2021 Hull-Hingham Babe Ruth Baseball League. Coach Eric Rickard is hoping that enough Hull players register so that there can be one team with all Hull players. That was the scenario last season, with the Hull team (the Dodgers) taking first place.

Football preview next week
The long-anticipated high school football season is just two weeks away. Next week I will have a preview of this season’s Pirates team and what to expect this spring. The season opens on Friday, March 12, at home. The opponent has not yet been confirmed.
Youth Lacrosse registration
Hull Youth Lacrosse is accepting registrations for the spring season. Boys and girls of all levels in grades one to eight (born between Jan. 2, 2006, and Jan. 1, 2015) are invited to sign up. There is no financial commitment at the time of registration, and lacrosse equipment is available. To register, go to www.hulllax.com.
