Two local authors, Judi Getch Brodman and Maureen Brookfield, will be signing their newly published books at an Oct. 1 First Friday reception, from 5-7 p.m. at the Front Street Art Gallery in Scituate.
Brodman, a former software consultant turned writer, is the author of eight books: two children’s books (“Fiona the Firefly” series) and six mystery/romance/time-travel novels (“She’s Not You,” “The Looking Glass Labyrinth,” “Dark Secrets,” “Til Death Do We Part,” and now her sixth, “Tales of the Silent,” all published by Solstice Publishing and available on Amazon. “She’s Not You,” a mystery/thriller/romance novel, the first in the Oyster Point Mystery series set on Cape Cod, made the quarter-finals in the Cinematic Book Contest; a sequel is in the works.
Brodman weaves emotion, twists and turns, and vivid background into her characters, settings, and plots, making them come alive for her readers.
For Brookfield, illustrating children’s books combines her passion for painting and reading. She loves bringing stories to life and making them fun and appealing to children’s sense of adventure. She is now working on “When You Meet a Witch,” an intriguing Halloween story for children. “A Silly Animal Alphabet” is her fifth book children’s book.
Previous books illustrated by Brookfield are: “E is for Empire: A New York Alphabet Book,” “N is for Nutmeg: A Connecticut Alphabet Book,” and “Times Square: A New York Number Book,” all published by Sleeping Bear Press.
Front Street Art Gallery, a juried cooperative gallery of more than 20 local artists and artisans, is located at 124 Front St. in Scituate Harbor. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., or by appointment.
