A new restaurant on the first level of the Nantasket Beach Hotel, where the Paragon Grill once operated, could open as early as June 1.
The Select Board approved the transfer of the food service, alcohol, and entertainment licenses from the Nantasket Beach Resort to Shoreline Kitchen + Bar this week. The restaurant will specialize in seafood and will be open year-round.
The new restaurant’s operators, who own and operate the popular True North Kitchen + Bar in Weymouth, were present at the hearing. Janet Campbell is serving as the manager. Joe Campbell has been in the restaurant business for 51 years, starting in 1971 when he worked for the then-Ye Olde Mill Grille in Hingham.
The Campbells were partners in the restaurants that made up the Cohasset Harbor Resort (Atlantica, The Olde Salt House, and Brisa Tapas and Wine Bar) before they sold their interests in 2016.
Joe Campbell earlier worked as vice president of operations for Legal Sea Foods and for the Chili’s and Ground Round corporations.
“I broke away from the Cohasset partnership because we wanted to start a restaurant of our own,” he said. The couple opened True North in 2017.
“We’re very excited to be coming to Hull,” he said. “We’re new to doing business here, but we’re not new to operating seaside restaurants. … We’re hoping this will be the showpiece of Hull, where out-of-towners will also come.”
Indoor entertainment will be offered, including live bands and music that could include guitar, keyboard, bass, drums, saxophone, and brass.
Select Board member John Reilly ran into Joe Campbell at True North recently and said he was impressed with his “passion and excitement about coming to Hull. I think the new restaurant will be a good fit.”
Select Board Chair Jennifer Constable noted that “a lot of exciting work is going on in this area, and Hull is really becoming a restaurant destination.”
