• DAR Good Citizens Award Celebrates local students. The Col. Thomas Lothrop Old Colony Chapter of DAR honored four exceptional young people at the chapter’s 2021 Good Citizens award ceremony on Sunday, March 7, virtually via Zoom. Each were nominated by the staff and faculty of their high schools and wrote an essay on the topic, “How do the combined actions of so many keep our nation moving forward?” Siobhan Burke from Hull High School was among this year’s honorees. The DAR Good Citizens program recognizes outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools, and communities. The program is open to all high school seniors in public or private schools, accredited by their state board of education.
• Rebecca DiTullio was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. DiTullio was initiated at Fordham University.
• Local cheerleader wins NCA College National Championship. The 2021 NCA College National Championships took place both in person and virtually this past weekend. Hull High School graduate Alyssa Smith competed and won the Intermediate Small Coed III Division for Bridgewater State University. While college athletes usually attend the competition at the Bandshell in Daytona, Florida, this year Alyssa and her teammates performed virtually, earning them the first win for black squad in BSU’s history. Congratulation to Alyssa on her first collegiate-level national championship.
Alexandra Hendrickson of Hull, MA from the Class of 2023 was named to the Winter 2020-2021 Head of School Scholar Honors list at Pomfret School. To achieve this level of distinction, Alexandra earned a grade point average of at least 4.00 and received no grade lower than an A-.
