Town Clerk Lori West has earned the prestigious designation of master municipal clerk, an advanced continuing education program that prepares participants to perform complex municipal duties.
Hers is one of two professional designations granted by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and only to those who complete demanding education requirements and who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, community, and state.
“In light of the speed and drastic nature of change these days, lifelong learning is not only desirable, it’s necessary for all in local government to keep pace with growing demands and changing needs of the citizens we serve,” Ashley DiBlasi, IIMC’s director of certification and conference programs, wrote in a letter notifying the town of West’s new designation. “Your town can take immense pride in Lori’s educational accomplishments and achievement of this milestone.”
West was on the line during the Select Board’s remote meeting this week and was praised by town officials for her new designation.
Town Manager Philip Lemnios noted that West earned the designation by taking on an additional workload beyond the day-to-day requirements of her position and during a pandemic, which increased her and other town employees’ workload.
“The town should feel very proud to have the services of Clerk West,” he said.
While working to achieve this designation for her own professional development, West said she also “did it for the town. This certification puts us into a different category in the town clerk world and in the municipal field” because the number of town clerks who receive it is limited.
“I love what I do, and I love working for this town and all the residents,” she continued. “I hope to continue to serve in this capacity for many years to come.”
Select Board member Domenico Sestito praised West for her hard work – “on weekends, evenings, during the early morning hours, and when on vacation. Lori doesn’t have to do this, but she does because she is so passionate about the town,” he said.
Select Board member John Reilly complimented West for having “brought the Town Clerk’s office into the 21st century with technology and various programs – with more changes and improvements to come.”
Fellow board member Greg Grey thanked West for doing a “phenomenal” job and for her commitment to excellence.
