The tug between the Hull school administration and those in town who want the return of high school and youth sports is front and center again. Only a few short weeks ago, despite the approval of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) to move forward with the winter sports season, Hull opted to stay on the sidelines due to health concerns about the coronavirus.
And, here we are again. On Friday, the MIAA voted to approve the Fall-2 season, which was created to allow typical fall season sports that were cancelled last fall to resume in early spring. The sports on the docket to be played later this month in Hull are football, indoor track, and possibly girls’ volleyball.
According to Hull High School athletic director Scott Paine, the school administration was scheduled to meet on Thursday this week to discuss Hull’s plan for the Fall-2 season, which runs from Feb. 22-April 25. Results of the meeting were not available at press time.
Hull’s Healey a hockey star
Hull’s Ryan Healey was invited to play for the USA National Development U17 hockey team in Plymouth, Mich. The team is a group of talented players born in 2004 who compete in the U.S. Hockey League (USHL), considered to be the best junior hockey league in North America. The majority of the USHL teams are comprised of 18- to 20-year-old players, so the U17 schedule is extremely demanding and highly competitive. The team trains and does online schooling at its facility in Plymouth along with the U18 team. Healey will stay with the team through this coming weekend, then join his USHL team, the Sioux Falls Stampede, for the next two weeks to play six games. Healey signed a letter of intent last year to play his collegiate hockey at Harvard University.
